(For my daughter)

Sorting Things Out poem by Darlene Witte

At the top of the pile
of things to keep
lies the gold, the everlasting
rose of my heart.

My love is constant,
beating close to you,
in rhythm today,
just as on that first day
that first hour
when your tiny body
with a heart of its own
made its rosebud way into mine.
