dancing, we long stepped past each other
bowing, we stepped so carefully, gracefully, our truth
nothing more than an evasive minuet of mirrors
we were blind, seeing our own inner
distortions born out of cracked hope
anger brought us to this:
we built despair
we made ourselves into the homeless
we are souls in want
our houses shake
we weep, each alone
our hands do not touch
I reach for your heart, but
you fall away from me
you think I’m grasping for your soul
but all I want is one sunbeam
to glow for me
to awaken in your eyes
we have now before us
a play of shadows
a divine tension
Which way will we move?
Will we each see clearly?
Will compassion rise?
Will the power to wound flow away, no longer needed?
Who will first ease the burden,
one for the other?
When will the music stop?
The mirrors crack?
When our hearts finally break, open one for the other?
Then will be the end to tears.
